Liposuction for Men

By Adam Togo

People generally relate plastic surgery to women. But today the number of men who seek liposuction is rising day-by-day especially in metropolitan areas like New York and Los Angeles. A liposuction conducted on a man is, however, different from that on a woman; the major difference being the cost on procedure involved. Liposuction on men is more expensive than on women on account of the various requests put forth by them.

The reason is a very general assumption that men are generally larger in size than women. Since liposuction prices are determined based on the amount of work required of the surgeon larger areas will cost more than smaller areas. So for a man to get the same procedure as a woman, in general, the man will have more area and therefore cost more.

Similarly, the dosage of anesthesia requirement is lower for smaller areas to be covered under surgery. On account of this reason most of the liposuction surgeries require local anesthesia that do not call for the administration by a professional anesthetist. The lower dosage of anesthesia and the absence of anesthesiologist can make a huge difference to the final cost of liposuction, pulling the true expenditure lower.

However, the increased cost of the procedure in men is mainly on account of the biological difference between them. The fat cells in men are more fibrous and tougher making the task of removing them more time consuming. This is another reason as to why the men are charged more for liposuction than women.

The request for treatment in areas that are more fibrous than other parts of the body made by men, results in larger cost. Parts of the body that requires greater effort to get eliminated through exercise and dieting like the chest, abdomen and love handles at the sides of the waist are generally reduced through liposuction.

It is important to receive some form of consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon before proceeding to the actual surgery. Liposuction for men as well as women require that the patient be carefully evaluated for all health purposes to avoid any unnecessary risk of complications. Even though laser liposuction is the popular procedure for the areas that men tend to request and is a very safe technique in its own right. - 30516
