How To Speed Up Liposuction Recovery?

By Craig Lipper

The period of liposuction recovery is very crucial. The period just after the liposuction surgery can be very uncomfortable for the patient. Most people experience different levels of pains, swelling, burning as well as temporary numbness in the area which is treated for liposuction.

The liposuction recovery period can be anywhere between a few days to a few months depending upon the nature of liposuction surgery and the size of area treated by surgery. Usually the patients are able to get back to work in a week or so but the full recovery may take as long as six months.

After liposuction operation, the patient may be uncomfortable and nauseated for one to 2 days which is expected. So, it is vital that the patient is accompanied by a buddy or family member during this period. During this period, the patient may need help while walking or going to the restroom. He also needs someone to give him regular medication. It is usual to see some amount of blood tinged tumescent fluid flowing out of the incision areas therefore the patient should not panic. This will stop in a few days.

There are many steps which can be taken to speed up the liposuction recovery process. These include taking rest as needed the day after the surgery. The patient should wear the compression garment as suggested by the doctor. He should drink adequate amounts of liquids to prevent dehydration. Absolutely avoid alcohol and acidic or oily food. If diabetic, monitor your sugar level regularly. You can do gentle fingertip massage on affected areas, three times daily, for three to six weeks. Never apply heating pads or ice packs on operated area after operation.

If you do the above mentioned things, you will be able to recover from the liposuction procedure in quick time. The recovery will be fast and you will come back to your normal life in no time at all. Since you have spent so much on liposuction, it is vital that you take care of your health after operation so that you can see the desired results in your body for which you had to undergo this surgery. - 30516
