What Are The Best Stretch Mark Treatments Available?

By Tony Garrudo

What's the first think you think of when stretch marks come to mind? What are the most important things about stretch marks to you, and what don't you care about as much? It's up to you.

The reason for this is that some stretch marks actually fade eventually, which makes them a lot less noticeable. With this in mind, many people decide that they can live with having the stretch marks. Another choice is to cover your stretch marks up with specially designed makeup. If covering up the stretch marks is not enough for you, you can opt to try laser therapy. The type of laser the surgeon uses will depend solely on the color of the stretch marks you are seeking treatment for. One type of laser works to stimulate the production of cells that make pigment. There is another type of laser that works to reduce the color of the stretch marks.

Yet another type of laser therapy promotes the production of collagen which will increase the elasticity in the stretch marks, helping them to decrease in size. Stretch marks are caused when the skins elasticity is stretched beyond its limits. This usually happens when a person grows to rapidly, like during puberty. Other times which people grow to fast is during rapid weight gains, like during pregnancy. It is the dermis, the skin's middle layer, that sustains the damage during these rapid growth periods. (You actually have three layers of skin: the epidermis, which is the outer most layer; the dermis, which is the middle layer; and the subcutaneous layer, which is the innermost layer.)

There are also blue light therapy treatments, which can help both acne and stretch marks as well. Stretch marks are removed with a treatment involving light and gels.

There are also topical creams that you can use to make your skin more elastic and moist. You can find creams that contain vitamin E. lanolin, wheat germ oil, and cocoa butter. However, these creams won't really work well unless your skin is being stretched already, so that your skin will stay soft and elastic. As a result, if you're at risk for stretch marks, you should take preventative measures. As soon as you start applying creams as your skin is stretched, you'll be much better off.

You won't find a guaranteed cure all for stretch marks, but there are ways that you can use these methods in concert to prevent them or minimize their appearance. After all, it's not like stretch marks are putting your life in danger or diminishing your health. They're simply inconvenient and frustrating to many of us. - 30516
