Scarless Tummy Tuck Explained

By Brandon Geberinger

A scarless tummy tuck or partial abdominoplasty will result in smaller and less visible tummy tuck scars. The cosmetic surgeon makes the incision much smaller than the incision made for a full abdominoplasty incision. You may be an ideal candidate for a scarless tummy tuck, if you lost elasticity in your abdomen and nothing you do improves it. Things such as age, pregnancy or a lot of weight gain can cause your skin on your abdomen to lose elasticity. This procedure is mainly for problems in the lower abdomen. There shouldnt be to much excess fat in this area. Your abdomen will look taut after this surgery because the surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten the muscles.

A few hours or less is the amount of time it takes to have a scarless tummy tuck. You should completely stop smoking about two weeks before surgery to lower the chances of any complications. A plan will be given to you by your surgeon so you know how to prepare yourself for this surgery.

A general anesthetic or local anesthetic in addition to a sedative will be used. The surgeon may also do liposuction along with the surgery.

After an incision is made above the pubis and the skin flap will be stretched. The skin flap is stitched back into place after the removal of fat and tightening of the skin. The belly button is let in place during the entire surgery. Only a small scar will show but it can easily be hidden.

The hospital stay is very short after a scarless tummy tuck. Usually patients can go home the same day they have the surgery performed. You can expect some pain, tenderness, swelling and bruising that may last up to six weeks. It may be possible to do light activities in a few days but full recovery could take a whole month. Stitches are removed approximately 10 days after a scarless tummy tuck. Activity needs to be increased to prevent blood clots and help you recover faster. Its important to follow your surgeons orders and keep every appointment to make sure everything is fine. - 30516
